SAINT & SINNERS (002) - GOA BREWING COMPANY
SAINT & SINNERS - GOA BREWING COMPANY
Brewed at Goa Brewing Company, Goa
Beer style : Trapist Style Ale
Batch : 002
DOB : 20/12/2019
It pours dark brown in colour but when light passes through it shows a deep amber reddish hue. A tan head is formed with small bubbles. Head retention is strong and stays till the end.
The beer has a moderate caramel and toasted (not burnt) malt caracter. It shows a low citrus aromas and flavour. It is accompanied by dried fruits such as prunes, apricot, blueberry along with toffee aroma and flavor which is moderate. It has low spice character similar to star anise. Jaggery aromas and flavor is moderate. Coconut aroma and flavors are low and can be detected as an aftertaste. The beer has a floral and spicy alcohol warmth which is alittle harsh on the palate.
This is a medium bodied beer. Astringency is moderate. Carbonation is moderate. It leaves a sweet malty caramel like flavor accompanyed by jaggery. Coconut and jaggery flavors are more prominent on the palate once the beer gets alittle warmer. Leave a sweet yet dry aftertaste of jaggery and coconut.
Overall Impression : Well this was batch 002 by GBC which I got from Goa in March 2020 and I kept it in the fridge till I had it opened up for my review on 30/01/2021. Alot has changed in terms of its flavor profile since it was kept cool for so long. I did keep the beer outside for 15-20 minutes to release all the complex characters as Anudeep mentioned earlier. The alcohol did get alittle mellowed but was still harsh on the palate. This batch was more malt focused which showed alot of caramel and toasty characters. Other elements like the dried fruit and jaggery went very well together. The citrus flavors were low but the beer was balanced more towards the malt. Overall this batch was good but it could be better. I would definitely do a detailed comparison of the batch 001 & 002 and give you my take on the beer. Cheers🍺
